ACE969 TP2 Modbus and DNP3 Protocol Details

The ACE969 TP2 (reference 59723) concurrently supports both Modbus RTU and DNP3 industrial communication protocols, offering maximum flexibility for power automation system integration. Engineers can select the appropriate protocol based on their SCADA platform requirements.

Modbus RTU is one of the most widely adopted serial communication protocols in industrial environments, while DNP3 holds a prominent position in the power industry — particularly in substation automation. ACE969 TP2's dual-protocol support makes it compatible with the vast majority of power automation applications.

Modbus RTU Protocol Parameters
  • Address range: 1 to 247, configured via rotary switch
  • Baud rate: 9600, 19200 (default), or 38400 bps
  • Data format: 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity
  • Maximum bus length: 1200 m (with termination resistors)
DNP3 Protocol Parameters
  • DNP3 slave address: 1 to 65519
  • Supports integrity polling and event reporting
  • Time synchronization capability
  • Configurable data link layer acknowledgement mode

"The dual-protocol design of the ACE969 TP2 significantly simplifies the integration of Sepam relays into diverse power automation environments."

In field installations, RS485 bus wiring requires proper impedance matching: 120 Ω termination resistors must be fitted at both ends of the bus, and all cable shields should be grounded at a single point to effectively suppress electromagnetic interference and ensure reliable communication.
